I'm currently posting this from a tiny handheld computer with a touchscreen and actual usable dictation abilities. This same machine is wirelessly streaming the new Owl City album to the family room speakers, which it did when I asked it to. Like, with my voice. And that isn't even a tenth of its capabilities.

The future is here, people. And it is awesome.

Hee! I don't have a device with anything like Siri yet (I'm assuming you got an iPhone 4S?), but I've been really enjoying Airplay from my iPad and/or my Mac. It's neat to be able to just select the livingroom speakers and that's all there is to it.

I did! And yes, AirPlay is awesome - we got an AirTunes adapter some years back for just that reason. The combination with Siri really makes it feel high-tech, though. :)

:) When we moved, we got two Airport Expresses, to reliably extend our wireless across all three floors (in conjunction with the Airport Extreme we already had). The Airplay support wasn't even something I was thinking about at all, and originally they were positioned near my computer and [livejournal.com profile] clawfoot's computer, so it wasn't really something we could exploit. However, it turned out that the wireless signal in our house is extremely fast and reliable from anywhere, but that our Sony blu-ray player would sometimes be flaky on the wireless (it seems to be a common issue with that particular unit), so I moved the one that was near my computer over to the entertainment system so we could "hard wire" it. I figured that while it was right there, I might as well hook it up. It's been very handy for background music on games days and the like. :)

Lincoln was wearing a shirt the other day that I feel is very pertinent to this post:

"If this is the future, where's my jetpack?"

Thanks to the generous subsidy from Mum Industries, I'm glad I was able to. I'm still not convinced I'm getting $100 a month of utility from it, awesome as it is, but it's at least marginally more justifiable with your help. :)
