Last night, I went back to CorePower, intending to pay the $20 drop-in rate to attend my favorite teacher's class. (As it happened, I forgot my wallet - never needed it when I had the monthly membership, so it wasn't on my mental list of things to grab! Derp. Erika gave me the class for free, though - I think she missed having me there. Aww. <3) I mentioned that I'd missed the place and had applied for the yoga-for-trade program, but it sounded like they were full up, and she made sympathetic noises. Don't know if anything will come of it, but I've at least shown my face, which I figure can't hurt my chances.

My general complaints about their business model still stand, but the fact is, I liked them significantly better than Yoga Tree (the other option in the area). I feel a little bad saying that, because I really liked the social environment at Yoga Tree, but the combination of the space being a little cramped, the schedule far less convenient, and the lack of hot-yoga capability all kind of clinched it for me. For whatever reason, those hot-power-yoga classes just get the endorphins flowing in a way the more traditional style just plain doesn't. And the core work does great things for my lower back. (The biggest test is a day spent at the Field Museum - hours of walking on very unforgiving floors - and the last time I went, a couple of months after my CPY Groupon expired, my back only tweaked a very little bit at the end.) But that still leaves the question of how I'm going to pay for it. I may just have to see if I can talk myself into a part-time gig someplace around here.

On the upside, I did much better last night than I'd anticipated after a few months of barely yog-ing at all. (Erika's class is far from the hardest I've taken there, but none of their classes are exactly a breeze.) I'd forgotten how good it feels when I'm done - wheee, endorphins! - and I slept crazy well last night. I'm a little sore today, but not anywhere near as much as I thought I'd be - I guess all the powering around Chicago has at least kept me in decent shape. Hooray, living in a walkable city!
