missroseroseAs previously mentioned, I had dinner over at Juneau-Brian's house. Good food, though the company was somewhat less than ideal - his brother Joel is at that age where teenagers in general don't quite qualify as members of the human race. Plus Joel's girlfriend Tiffany was over there - Brian and I were taking bets on how quickly one would get drunk if we took a drink every time she said " well, like, yeah" or "Oh my gosh". I mean, like, honestly. *rolls eyes*
There was one gem from the dinner conversation, however. At some point Brian's mother had mentioned that I grew up in Anchorage (mostly in the context of not knowing much about Alaskan bush villages), and I pointed out that I'd been living in Barrow on and off for the past few years, and therefore knew a fair amount about living in rural Alaska. At which point Tiffany pipes up, "Barrow? Is that near Anchorage?"*
I think the stunned silence lasted a good thirty seconds, while I did my best not to laugh uproariously.
And on a side note, Filipinos generally have naturally black, stick-straight hair, right?
So could somebody tell me why on Earth a seventeen year old Filipino girl would need a hair straightener? Please?

Barrow is a small town of about 4,500 people and is located at the farthest northern point of Alaska (and is also the northernmost city in the U.S.). Almost everyone who lives in Alaska is aware of these two facts.
