Yep. Two whole washings, and the blue's back to where it was after the first, less-successful, dyeing.

On the other hand, tomorrow is a trip to Tucson, wherein will lie the acquisition of more dye, including (hopefully) the vaunted Special Effects. (One of the girls at the beauty supply store tipped me off that the local record-store chain sells it, which just happens to be one of Brian's favorite stores anyway, so - score! Here's hoping they still do/she wasn't misremembering/they don't want 300% retail price for it.)

Also planned: wandering around 4th Avenue, solar-powered pizza, and making fried chicken and cornbread to eat while watching Metalocalypse with Adam. I may also comandeer his bathroom, depending on how successful the quest for hair dye is. (Currently leaning towards purple for the next bout, but I've had one vote for emerald green, if y'all want to get your ballots in...)

Purple would be fucking *stunning* on you! I feel like your complexion wouldn't be complemented nearly as well by the green, but I think it would look good too. :)

How often do you wash your hair? I only wash mine maybe twice a week, but rinse it nearly every day (every time I take a shower anyway). I don't use conditioner except right after I dye, which keeps my hair from being weighted down and looking dirtier from the sticky greasy crap in most conditioners (I understand though that washing longer hair without conditioner can be a fucking nightmare to try to comb out afterwards--that's actually part of why I trimmed my hair, I was getting tired of the ends gnarling up so badly when I washed it). I definitely let my colors fade a fair bit before I bother redyeing, but I only dye every 3-4 weeks or so, with a greenish hue that tends to fade out pretty fast--I'd usually go about 2 months with the orange before redyeing, especially because it still looked pretty great even very faded. But, even washing your hair less, having it so faded after two washings is pretty impressive. Maybe switch to a "colorsafe" shampoo when you're not trying to rough up your hair to make it take a fresh dye? Here's hoping SFX clings to your hair better...

ETA (man, I can't shut up when you're talking about dye, apparently): something I read about one girl doing, but which I have never tried, is to mix her conditioner about 1:1 with the dye she uses, to keep it looking very vibrant and fresh. Might be worth a shot? Also, hot water will strip your color REALLY fast, you might try keeping your hair dry until the end of your shower and then washing it fast with cooler water. I used to do that to keep my red from turning pink quite so fast, it definitely did make some difference, but only delayed it by maybe a week/two washings.

I think green would be fun, but you're totally right - greens, especially forest greens, make olive skin look yellow. Ah, Mediterranean genetics. Still, I'll probably try it at least once just for the fun of it.

I've been washing my hair every other day. If I don't use conditioner with each washing mine gets unmanageable, but fortunately it doesn't seem to get weighed down like some folks' does.

Given that the Manic Panic pink lasted for a good four washings before the fading was even particularly noticeable, I'm thinking that the N Rage just didn't work too well with my hair. I've got the SFX in now, we'll see how it turns out.

Not a bad idea about the cooler water. Especially now that I live in AZ, and therefore won't end up an ice cube. :D

Off to go rinse! Let's hope it comes out picture-worthy.

Pinks are notorious for sticking around--I've had friends who don't have to redye their pinks for literally 6 months at a time, so long as they don't mind their roots growing out. SFX brand Atomic Pink is all but permanent. So, if your hair really loses its dye that fast, pinks may actually be your best bet. *shrug*

I'm so jealous of your trip to Tucson, I can hardly contain myself. Home is really on my mind this weekend, for obvious reasons.

Be on the lookout for a package headed your way soon. Though I'm afraid it's mostly a family-oriented present rather than for you specifically. I hope you don't mind. :)

Also, bear with my momentary brain-fart, but - what are the obvious reasons?

It's actually looking like more of a dark periwinkle. But if you're going to lay dibs on the green, you have to dye *your* hair with it! Fortunately you happen to have two children who are getting to be quite good at dyeing hair funky colors...I happen to think Manic Panic Green Envy (http://www.sallybeauty.com/on/demandware.store/Sites-SA-Site/default/Product-Show?pid=SBS-484003&dwvar_SBS-484003_color=Green+Envy) would look fantastic on you...

Oh yes, I can just see my boss and all my clients reacting to that particular color choice in my role as Associate General Counsel - NOT!!!!

I am afraid the funky colors will have to wait until I retire. Wait, isn't there a poem about that? "When I am old I will color my hair purple and wear a red hat that doesn't suit . . . " Love, Mum
