Brian and I went out shooting today (since I probably won't get an opportunity while I'm in Anchorage visiting my mother), and at one point I went to hitch up my pants. With a loaded gun in my hand. With the safety off. And my finger (which I thought was on the trigger guard) on the trigger.

Fortunately, while I wasn't following Rule #3 (keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot), I was following rule #2 (never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy) - in this case, at the ground - so when my finger inevitably squeezed the trigger, nothing was hurt. It was close enough to my foot, however, to make me hyperventilate for a good ten seconds, as well as mentally kick myself for not flicking the safety on (or even better, putting the gun down entirely).

Oddly enough, after I was done with that part, I went on to shoot six beer bottles from 10 yards away with the remaining eight bullets in the magazine. Apparently a little bit of adrenaline is good for the aim...

Ha, totally meant to link to this (or a different version thereof). See? I forget to check my copy/paste now and then, too! I'm really not perfect!

Fixed now.

Are you aware that your link goes to the literary contest page, instead of the handgun rules you probably meant it to go to?

I'm glad to hear that you were aiming at the ground instead of at your foot.

D'oh. That would explain why Ian posted a different version of the same rules. >< Thanks for catching that.

Please stop trying to remove or destroy random parts of your body.

If there are any parts you want to get rid of, just post pictures instead and we can curse them for you. :)
