...but after all that argy-bargy with the design and whether or not to use this or that custom photo, I eventually just went with something fairly classy-generic:

It's not as distinctive, and it doesn't match the website or anything, but it gets the information across and the composition works a lot better than the previous designs I was tinkering with. And something about the antebellum swirls and cursive font appeals to me.

Besides, it was one of the free designs. Which is to say, it only cost me the $10 of "I'd like it in less than three weeks plz" shipping. Plus the $4 of "please don't put VistaPrint advertising on the back." And the time spent clicking through ten different pages of "But wait, there's more!" special offers. I swear, they could give Stan "I Won't Shut Up Until I've Made You A Deal" Stanman a run for his money...

I LOVE IT!!!

Two thumbs way UP!!! (One of which has a blister from putting together my new console table with three drawers, two shelves and two woven banana leaf baskets - I only had a straight screwdriver and following those direct translation instructions was complicated! But it now proudly holds a large copper tray with my new slate and copper table fountain, in my gorgeous new office with the 12 foot ceilings. Visiting the in-house attorney should be a soothing experience, don't you think?)

I am so proud of you! Love, Mum

Congratulations! (And are you sure you don't like it just 'cos it doesn't have a martini on it? :P)

I like it. I was swamped else I'd have weighed in on the myriad designs with your run-o-the-mill cop-out "I'm design-blind," but that's distinctive and classy and the swirls add an odd sense of fluidity to it. Good choice.

Thanks! I thought it was eye-catching and appealing and would get the job done. I *did* fall for the "Double your order for only $3.74 more!" offer, because with what they charge for shipping it seemed practical, so now I'm going to have 500 of them to burn through...perhaps I should send some your way in case you have friends who might be interested? Or is pimping not your strong suit? :)

I quite like that, actually. :) I still would have right-aligned all the text to a single alignment line, but that's my thing. :) But yeah, that does work!

Yeah, the free designs don't let you play around with the alignment. Which is part of the reason I liked this one, 'cos I thought it looked good even with the defaults.

Also, I found a design that would absolutely drive you bonkers. :D

*hehe* Actually, I quite like that one. It seems like a jumble but it's actually overall only a few alignment points. The company information is all right-aligned against the green/grey break in the bottom rule, even though the orientations rotate. The white address block is right-aligned in its little pocket. I think the spacing of Full Name / Job Title / Email could be tweaked slightly to fill the grey region better, and in general some of the spacing of elements seems *slightly* wonky, but I think it's kinda neat.

Hee, go figure. I did think it would be fun if you were a graphic design studio or something else where an atypical design would be a plus, but it made my sense of order go "blargh" a little too much. :)

One weird thing about it is that the least likely to be available / filled in / appropriately sized piece of information (the company's mission statement or whatnot) has the most central and rigid positioning. If you leave that blank, the design will look ridiculous, but it's also non-trivial to expand it to fit a longer text block if needed.

Have you ever thought about going into design? It's striking me that you have the kind of eye for combined overall shape + detail that would be remarkably useful in such a field.

It's actually half of my job responsibility here (I do all of our design and layout at the company in addition to IT), and prior I had a bunch of design and layout summer jobs. :)

Ahh. Suddenly I begin to see why you like your job, even with the, uh...interesting coworkers. :D

I approve of this design. It still says 'classy' without the granite and marble, the negative space is not an issue, and it's quick and cheap.
