Yes, this looks terrifying as all hell, but it's also every flying dream ever come to life.

Uh. I'll just meet you at the bottom. (My flying dreams are best not coming to life.)

Isn't it, though? What really gets me is, the few times I've dreamed about flying, it's felt exactly like I'd imagine the physics of those things to work (for whatever reason, my flying dreams have always felt more like controlled gliding/falling than actual gaining altitude). I've really got to try that and see if it's as awesome as it is in my dreams. :D

Usually when I fly in dreams it's something like what jumping around in microgravity would be like-- jumping over buildings and such in slow motion. It doesn't happen very often though; maybe I should learn some lucid dreaming techniques...

I have dreams of flying once or more a week, and I have two kinds - the good ones and the frustrating ones. In the good ones I can go screaming through the jetstream with the slightest effort of will. In the frustrating ones I can usually manage third-story level gliding at approximately a brisk walking pace, if I focus really hard.

Usually in the frustrating ones I satisfy myself with amazing my friends and astounding my relatives by going "Hey can you see if you can reach that, way up there? Actually never mind I'll just..." (Insert flight.) Or I find spiral staircases and fly up the middle while making fun of all the people who have to walk / get stuck in a crowded hallway and go "screw this, I'm *flying* to class" / etc.

As for wingsuits - I would be happy to die doing that. Or getting shot down while flying a combat mission, like Antoine de St-Exupéry. I think I might be mildly obsessed with flight.

Self-realization for the win. :) I'm curious, have you put any effort into lucid dreaming? Because the descriptions you write sound like lucid dreams, and most people only have those once in a while unless they practice at it.

I have put quite a bit of effort into lucid dreaming. Not so much recently, but in the past I got pretty good at it. I once had the really, very bizarre experience of being in the middle of a lucid dream, realizing that I was about to wake up, and remaining "conscious" during the transition from dreaming to being awake. I'm sure this was an injection by my subconscious, but it did include the "camera panning away down a tube plus sucking sound" thing you always see in movies :D
