Firstly, is everything in order? unpacked and organized and all that. Secondly, have you decided on what sorts of things you need to replace and at what sort of interval you would like to acquire them?
Beyond that, explore the area. Learn the ins and outs of the neighborhood. Find out where the parks are. Find out where the nearest public pool is (or if you have one as part of your home find out what needs to be done to maintain it). Find out where the public libraries are. And remember that you might want to have your doors locked more often than not, believe me.

Seconded on the 'get out and explore'. Find the parts of SV that don't look like suburbia strip mall wasteland. I'm fairly certain there must be something like that out there.

In with the "explore" crew here. Also:
-Tour the libraries (hopefully plural)
-Jobhunt. Meshes nicely with "explore", doesn't even have to be deliberate, just stroll around with some resumes in your pack and drop one off whenever you think "hey I'd like to work here". Bonus points if you get a call.
-Rock garden
-Thorough investigation of nightlife. Again, under "explore" and meshes with "jobhunt" - you seem to have fun mixing drinks, ever thought of doing it professionally?
-Make plans for solar oven? I know you're in the mountains so it's cold, how's the sunlight?

The sun around here is like a homeless man with bad breath - it wants to say hello and it doesn't know how to do so from a respectable distance.

Since everyone else is being helpful

Ride horses at Ft. Huachuca. (Take me along.) It's like $11 an hour or something. Also you can lease a horse here. I totally would have if I were going to be here long. They provide... well, everything. You just stop in whenever and ride.

...you DO like horses, right?

Make some new friends. Does your hubby work with people your age with spouses that you could invite over for a barbecue?

Find a job. Weren't you going to look into working at Old Tucson or somewhere like that?

Write. Preferably letters to your friend Leigh in Virginia, but any writing will do.

Adopt a greyhound.

Hee. I actually started writing you a letter on the airplane (just after finishing The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, I'm sure you'll be unsurprised to learn), but all I had to write on was a plastic barf bag and the ink got all smeared. :( Perhaps I'll see about transcribing it.

Come visit me in New Mexico once I move in a week or so? :)

I'm moving from Iowa to New Mexico, which is not quite as dramatic as your move, but... still a huge jump for me.

I'm sure we can work something out. :) What's bringing you to NM?

Probably much the same that brings Brian to AZ, if earlier comments are correct. Military base, classified technology, etc.

Though, to be fair, I could probably head your way easier, as I can just rent a plane & scoot out there some weekend.
