I'm pretty sure the LiveJournal TOS requires that any given user post something whiny and self-centered at least once per month. Or, at least, that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I'm feeling kind of disillusioned and frustrated right now. Over the past year or so (and the past few months especially), I've really enjoyed going out on Saturdays - sure, the Viking isn't exactly a great venue, but their dance floor usually has some perfectly serviceable music, and the karaoke was fun (and pool if one's eardrums needed a break or one wanted to chat). But it seems like everything I enjoy about it's being changed - as I think I've mentioned before, they've replaced karaoke and pool with local bands on Saturday nights, and while I can do without the pool I really miss karaoke. The dance floor's still there, but the DJ lately seems to be really into music I have no interest in dancing to - this week I got all dressed and went out, only to hang out for an hour and kinda-sorta dance to a song and a half. And I was really looking forward to dancing today, too, because my moods have (for some reason) been on a roller-coaster today and dancing almost always makes me feel better. But it's kind of hard to get into it when the music just plain sucks.

I dunno. I could try going on Fridays instead, but part of the reason I like going on Saturdays is because that's when Monica goes, and if you don't bring any friends along it's nowhere near as much fun. I just wish I lived somewhere there was a real club.

I think I'll take a shower. Hopefully that'll help me feel better. If you read this far, thanks for listening to me whine, and I promise to return the favor sometime.

And this is why I don't go out, even in Atlanta.
The DJ's aren't that great and they tend to stick with a scant few genres (like crap; the 'c' is silent) when they're running things. I suppose it doesn't help that I'm a nonsmoker. Most places allow smoking in and out, and while I used to be able to put up with it, I've gotten past that in my life.
On the one hand you could always just start up a Karaoke bar and run the place, but on the other, it is Juneau, and things there don't often take well to changes on the scene.
Either way, I can understand the lackluster feeling toward what little night-life Juneau has these days.

When good places to hang out are in short supply (as I imagine they are in Juneau) I think you're quite entitled to lament when you lose one. :)

Hope you start feeling better again soon!

Thanks for the sympathy - yeah, good nightlife is fairly scant here. But I am feeling better this morning, and it's a gorgeous day, so it's not like it's ruined my whole weekend. :)

That sucks a great deal. For you, sure. But what about *me*?? I was expecting to come up and dance, and to listen to you sing.
Tell them I'm very cross!
(**hugs** I'm sorry, sweetie. And this is a perfectly legitimate whine.)

*offers cheese. And other refreshments*

I'm guessing that dance floors in Juneau must have gone through a golden age since I paid any attention to them, because your current opinion on them is oddly similar to my take on them from a while back. Funny that.

Well, it's not like they were fantastic before, but the DJ did a pretty good job playing stuff that was at least moderately danceable (and you know me, if it's got a beat I can generally do something with it). I don't know if he was just feeling antisocial this week or what, but I apparently wasn't the only person who didn't like the music - usually the floor's pretty crowded by 11 or so, but there weren't more than a few brave souls out.

*laughs* That seems to happen a lot. I seem to remember reading about one a year or two ago that broke out after a dude insisted on singing the same song (very badly) for the fourth time in a row. At that point, I almost can't blame the dude who threw the first punch. :D

Incidentally, thanks for the Doctor Who hookup!

Heh! Yeah, the guy with the fourth try at suckage had was askin' for it.

You're welcome! :) I sure enjoyed Michelle Ryan! I mean, that episode! :)
