It's Friday, and for some reason everyone around me seems to have taken crazy pills this morning. (Is there a free sample giveaway for Crazoc that I missed?)

Ask me a question, and help me maintain the illusion that the rest of the world has *not* gone insane while I wasn't looking...

Tell me something about your upcoming wedding! :)

Well, it's not technically a question, but I'll let it slide. :)

We're not quite sure how to handle the registration/gifting aspect. On the one hand, we're already a firmly established household and have no need for the traditional mixer/toaster/china/fondue set; frankly, we don't have room for the extra crap, anyway. On the other hand, we'd be very pleased if people gave us money so we could afford to honeymoon in Hawai'i; but on the third hand, I don't quite feel comfortable asking for money from people - I know that's incredibly gauche. But on the fourth hand (apparently I'm Vishnu today), I know that mores are changing, especially as more and more couples get married after establishing a household together; and most banks these days have some equivalent of a matri-money account designed specifically for couples who would prefer cash gifts instead of toasters, which must mean that it's more acceptable than it used to be. Am I overthinking this? ;)

Perhaps it depends on who the majority of attendees or giftgivers will be. My mother (Miss Emily Post incarnate) would be horrified at the matri-money account, as would anyone in my grandparents' generation. On the other hand, I think it's perfectly practical and makes so much more sense than registering for china you'll never use. Will you be inviting mostly your friends, or your parents' friends? If a combination, then perhaps you do both and register for sheets and towels (who couldn't use more sheets??) AND set up a bank account and have your bridesmaids spread the word to your generation that that's where gifts should focus.

Hm, that's not a bad idea. Although we actually have several sets of sheets - Costco has a tendency to get in super-nice high quality sateen ones for not too much, and we both love luxurious sheets. :)

Our wedding is actually going to be rather smaller than all that - I think there's an upper limit of 14 people, and it'll be a fair mix of friends our age and our parents' age (with a couple of grandparents tossed in for good measure).

Frankly, there's few enough people that I'm kind of tempted to just forget the whole gifts idea. Although I suppose we could set up one of those accounts, then pass the buck to my mother when people ask about gifts. She's a Scientologist, after all - one thing they're not shy about is asking for money. :D

Also, here's something just fun - check out the adorable shoes (http://dyeablesshoes.stores.yahoo.net/dy-20001sa.html) I ordered. (I love heels and what they do for my legs, but Brian's the same height as me and I'm thinking he'd probably rather I didn't tower over him. And my dress is long anyway, so it won't matter too much.)

Those ARE really cute. Way cuter than the average dyeable shoe!

Are you guys planning a traditional sort of honeymoon after the wedding? If so, where are you going?

Sheesh, I should have called this "IFAMAQ: Wedding Edition". :)

We'd like to go to Hawai'i, but are holding back a bit until we have a better idea of what our finances will look like. Even small weddings are bloody expensive. :P Fortunately my mother's helping defray the cost somewhat, but we'll see - I'd rather not start our life as newlyweds in severe debt. On the other hand, nobody's vacationing right now, so there are some pretty screaming deals to be had hotel- and airfare-wise.

My wedding cost $265 (though if I had it to do over again, I'd have spent another $150 to have the house cleaned). It's possible, but it means asking yourself if you REALLY need all the bells and whistles.

I always planned to have a big wedding "later" as a renewal-of-vows, but as time went on I realized that I really didn't care about having a big cake and a dress I'd never wear again and dinner for a bunch of people, and I'd much rather travel and remodel the kitchen.

Hee. We gave some serious thought to just eloping, but my mother would have killed us - she absolutely loves weddings. Fortunately, she's helping defray some of the cost, and we're keeping it small, which is helping a lot. I don't feel the need for a big white gown and hundreds of guests or anything, but I know she wants to make the cake and there's still enough sixteen-year-old-girl in me to want a pretty dress. :)

Why did Friday the 13th come a week late for you? :)

I'm afraid you've got me there. However, the afternoon went splendidly, and the evening is only looking better. So I apparently only got a half-dose, anyway. :)

Are there any new recipes you want to try, or have tried lately and would recommend?

Hmm...not me personally (unless you count drink recipes), but Brian made some pretty fabulous black bean soup from this recipe (http://www.recipezaar.com/TGIFridays-Black-Bean-Soup-102274). I think the only major changes he made were omitting the liquid smoke and adding some spices.
