I'm sure most of you are familiar with the sidebar ads on Facebook pages, which use the information in your profile to advertise products or services that you're more likely to be interested in. Being a young(ish) woman, I tend to get a lot of weight-loss ads, along with some sci-fi fandom communities and whatnot. (My favorite one so far? "Join our Intellectual Lesbian Community". Rather amusingly specific, but hey - that's the joy of the internet.)

So, given recent events, Brian and I have changed our relationship status on our respective Facebook profiles to "Engaged".

As a result, I've been seeing a number of ads for wedding planners, wedding photographers, wedding dress discount retailers, and, of course, the ever present "You don't want to be a fat bride, do you?" diet products.

Brian's new ads? "Exotic Dancers In Your Area."

Well... I don't use facebook but the random crap that ends up in my email inboxes is still rather amusing. Grats on the engagement by the by, as I missed the initial post the other day.
Quite honestly, if you want to have a fairly inexpensive wedding? There are dresses by Casablanca Bridal that would look amazing on you and they're reasonably priced; also, the wedding shop (I think they're out by Reliable Sheet Metal these days) is a retailer of theirs so you can get the dress ordered rather easily.
And for cakes? Make your own, or request something super simple from one of the stores in town, instead of going for the marzipan and fondandt.
I have a LOT of stuff from when I was working on planning mine, still have all the magazines and clippings and the like. It was less expensive than grabbing a planner and after all, it is YOUR day, so, do what you feel.
Feel free to drop me an email or whatnot if you want me to pull out any of the old clippings so I can send the info to you.
Again, grats :)

Well, I hope it'll be Brian's day too. :)

I appreciate the offer on the clippings, but we're actually keeping things pretty simple - my mother's making the cake, I ordered a lovely gown (technically a bridesmaid dress but I didn't want anything super-fancy) for $250 at one of the local shops, and the Pearson's Pond folk are doing everything else. Plus the venue's small enough that I've been able to tell all the relatives I don't like much "Oh, I'd love to have you come, but there's just no room..." Hooray for getting to out-passive-aggressive your passive-aggressive folks. ;)

Do what works :) And damnit, I demand photos! since there's no way in hells I'll be up there.
So long as you two get what you want, nothing else matters ^^
