Bristol Palin, the much-scrutinized pregnant teen daughter of a (former, thankfully) VP candidate, has given birth to a healthy son.

And named him...Tripp Easton.

Odds that she picked that one out from the Sarah Palin Baby Name Generator? Anyone...?

(At least she's keeping up with family tradition. Le sigh.)

I don't know of any convention in naming that bugs me more than consecutive concluding consonants. I'll forgive them for naming them after sundry inanimate objects or random syllable constructions, Apple Maddox Brooklyn Sombrero Antagonisto Jones or whatever (though I certainly would understand if Track and Trig bore serious mad-ons for the folks for their insipid nomenclature for time immemorial), but I just can't make it past the double-consonant ending. Like "Tagg" or "Phill," it almost demands to be pronounced, like "tag-guh" or "fil-luh" -- I don't know if they think they're being clever or...I don't know what that's supposed to be. "Tripp, with two Ps." Christ, like the kid doesn't have heavy enough a cross to bear already....

At least it's not as bad as another teen-mother birth name that was making the rounds of the childfree communities - "Infinite Skyy". I shit you not.

Probably the best quote to come out of that particular snarkfest, although I can't remember who said it:

Good names fit into the following sentences: "This is Doctor {NAME}, my oncologist." "All rise; honorable Judge {NAME} presiding." "Dewey & Howe would like to welcome {NAME}, our new junior partner."

Bad names fit into the following sentence: "The Boom Boom Room is proud to present {NAME}!"

Well, you have to remember that Frank Zappa actually named his own daughter Moon Unit, maybe these people are trying to one-up a family that also includes Dweezil, Ahmet and Diva.

Given her choice, isn't it good that she added the second P? Otherwise the kid would be Trip, which is even worse. He's going to get made fun of either way, but the latter lends itself to to teasing both spoken AND written, no?

Why oh why couldn't she just have chosen Trey or Trevor?

Because those aren't "All-American" names?

I'm kind of with Brian. Especially since my Sarah Palin baby name was "Flack Landmine Palin". It could have been much, much worse. :D

Named after a UPS company and a sports equipment manufacturer.

At least he wasn't called Battery Jockstrap, I guess.

Although if he had been, he probably could have made a living showing people his birth certificate in circus sideshows. :D

When I worked in admissions at UAS, we had a request for info come from someone in the Bay Area named Whiskey Crashhead. Could have been made up, I suppose. But ever after that day, I always wanted to change my name to Tequila Moshpit.

*giggles* Wow. Yeah, I think both of those fit into the "bad" name sentence above. (What would Whiskey Crashhead's act be? Downing a row of shots before driving a bumper car around the stage in clown costume?)
