Monday morning random thought

Last night, Chris & Jeanne and Brian and I all went out to dinner and to see the new James Bond flick. It was a fun night out, for all that I was in something of a quiet mood. However, there was one moment that made me double over laughing.

Thanks in part to our efforts, Jeanne's become a huge Doctor Who fan, and by extension has started watching a lot of BBC America. She was telling us about a talk show she saw where David Tennant was the special guest star, with the associated Doctor Who jokes and pranks (some of which were really quite elaborate). But the bit that really got me was where he'd put up a personals ad stating something along the lines of "Doctor seeks Companion for wild adventures", along with a cell phone number (the phone, of course, he had with him). When the host asked if he'd gotten any responses, he said "More than zero," and proceeded to show the audience the text message he'd received - "If you'll play The Doctor, I'll be The Master."

I was mulling it over this morning while swimming, and I'm honestly stumped about which part was what pushed me into near-hysterics - the fact that there's a Doctor Who-themed gay bondage sphere (which in Britain, I suppose isn't all that surprising), or the fact that I can actually see that being a hot setup...

No, although it's in the Netflix queue. I'm told it's a bit more adult-themed. :)

It is, an openly gay/bi main character, not sure if its on Torchwood or Dr Who, but theres a man kiss scene between Captain Jack and the Doctor somewhere along the lines too, other same sex scenes and themes too. It's a big step for BBC, and surprising, considering it's a Dr Who spinoff. I recommend it wholeheartedly.

Yeah, the Doctor/Harkness kiss scene was in the first season of Doctor Who. I do like the idea of a show starring Captain Jack; I think what I like about him most is that he comes from a time when gay/straight/bi/whatever isn't an issue. You're attracted to whomever you're attracted to, and it's all good. That's a future I'd certainly be happy to work towards. :)
