I'm thinking of going to a (gasp!) department store this weekend and buying myself a suit-type outfit for my birthday - like an interview suit, something a Real Adult would wear. (I'm going to be 25, fer chrissakes. I might as well have at least one Real Person outfit.) I know the basics - stay conservative, tailored suit/jacket/blouse combo is best, etc. Also, I'm a bit broad-shouldered, so I should probably avoid shoulder pads. Does anyone have any advice on specific colors, accessories, styles, etc.?

I wasn't asking you specifically. Other people read this blog, you know.

Believe it or not, it's not all about you.

In fact, I'm fairly certain that it's all about me.

No shit. Comedy, though.

That said, I'm thinking about you in formal wear and something unusual/striking might be in order. Not necessarily bright colors, but odd cuts or subtle stripes quite possibly.

Can't go wrong with navy or black with a white shirt. At least, that's what I've been told and have found to be true. Also, shoulder pads are annoying as hells so I second the avoidance of them.
Other than that, I'd say try for an ankle length or knee length strait skirt with a matching jacket top, if you're comfy with that.
It's strange that I've picked up all sorts of fashion tips and advice over the years when my regular clothing of choice these days is guys' skater shorts and a tank top and maybe an unbuttoned shirt to cover my shoulders and cheap but squishy sandals. o_0

*laughs* Well, interview attire is handy to know. I'm thinking I'll go with navy blue, although a lot will depend on what the selection at the local Gottschalks is like. (Hint: Crappy with a chance of scattered sales.)

Navy blue is always a good choice; if you can find a nice brown (and have shoes that go with it), that can be good too, and is a little less severe.

What colors do you usually find yourself wearing? If it's warmer colors, I'd lean to the brown; cooler, go for the navy blue.

Also... I'm a HUGE fan of pinstripes. *lol* I think all three of my suits are pinstripe. (One's too big, one's too small, the last is MIA. :( Sadness is Alex.)

Hm. I've always been a tad leery of brown, but I'm told it looks good on me, so maybe I'll see what they have. (See above about local selection.) Shoes are going to be part of the excursion, so no worries there.

Incidentally, Brian was wondering aloud recently whether you got your print yet, and how your father liked it if so. (If not, we're going to need to check up on things.)
