I have to call up Apple and send in my computer. I've got a guaranteed hardware problem this time around - the backlight on the screen only works intermittently and with progressively more coaxing from me. Which I strongly suspect might have something to do with the cat knocking it off the table, but they don't need to know that.

However! I am not here to complain, but rather to celebrate: Steven Moffat is taking over Doctor Who! I'm sure I don't need to explain my jubilation to fans, so I'll just add that I loved this bit from the article: Moffat said: "My entire career has been a secret plan to get this job. I applied before but I got knocked back because the BBC wanted someone else. Also I was seven. Russell Davies has done a fine job, but I've never been less than thoroughly entertained/pleased/creeped out by any of Mr. Moffat's episodes.

On that note, Brian and I've finally finished watching the three DVD sets, and while I was pretty impressed all together, the third season felt especially uneven (I seem to remember reading that Davies had been seriously ill for part of it, which might've explained some of it). The writing was distressingly uneven in places, and while Martha Jones made an interesting companion (especially given her more-educated background compared to Rose's solid from-the-heart-ness), she felt incredibly underused. That said, the second half had some of the best episodes in the show - I'm thinking especially of "Blink" and "Human Nature/The Family of Blood". The latter hit me especially hard for personal reasons that I might go into later, but the former was a Moffat episode and nominated for a Hugo, so, no huge surprise there.

(Also, I should probably note that David Tennant did indeed succeed in roping me in for the second and third seasons; his ADD all-over-the-place style makes an interesting contrast to the laser-like focus that Christopher Eccleston had, but he's doing an altogether amazing job, and I'm more than happy that he's staying on so long.)

And for one last bit of potential Doctor Who-related win: I note that Neil Gaiman is playing rather coy when asked about the potential of a Gaiman Doctor Who episode...
