I'm thinking of switching over permanently to WordPress as a main blogging engine. This is precipitated in part by the latest drama, but it's also due to some really nifty features WordPress has that I've been looking into. I was able to import my entire five years' worth of entries pretty painlessly, and while the comments weren't included, those will theoretically remain here (and even if something happens to this account, the entries themselves are safe).

I'm a bit torn up about what to do about my friendslist, though. In a way, it's almost ironic - a year ago I was complaining that none of my friends ever updated their blogs, so I finally relaxed my general "no friends I don't know in meatspace" rule, and *gasp* made a couple of online friends who do update regularly. I suppose I can just figure out how to set up an RSS feed aggregator (like normal people) and use this account for commenting, with a link to the WordPress blog. I guess we'll see.

Any thoughts?

Funny you should mention that. One of my f-list got himself drummed out of LJ for posting "improved" Archie scans and a review of HP7 before its release (both of which were DMCAed, IIRC, and inappropriately, I would argue), so he's got his own domain now. And he's reflected on the transition and the LJ kerfluffle du jour, and as per usual, he makes a lot more sense than I do.

Me, I've got a f-list of 100+ users who do love their f-locked posts, so I think simple inertia will keep me here for the time being. And I do some LJ-specific bits from time to time, and honestly, if I did migrate to my Blogger account, nobody would read it. I'm not that noteworthy. I do understand the impulse, though. I just can't outdraw a monkey on a typewriter.

Well, as one of the non-meatspace friends, I'd be sad to see you go - because I just do not pay as much attention to non-LJ blogs as I do to LJ blogs. :/ Even if I want to, even if I find you the coolest person in the world - unless there's some way for me to read you on LJ, I won't stop by unless I remember to do otherwise.

Actually, you'd probably still be able to keep up with me on LJ - all a friends page is is an RSS feed aggregator with a couple of extra doohickeys for LJ feeds. So we could set up a feed for my WordPress blog, the same way Patrick Rothfuss' blog has one ([livejournal.com profile] rothfuss).

This is true. In that case, I do not mind so much. So if you don't mind the added hassle, I will wave you off with a smile and bring champagne for the blogwarming ;)

Frankly, I think leaving LJ over this kerfuffle would be silly.

And anyway, I won't let you go! *CLING*

It's not over this kerfuffle, per se. I like a lot of the features at WordPress and I don't really use the community features of LJ that much.

Will you cling to the RSS feed from my WP blog?

I'll probably cling to chatting with you on IM, actually. :-)

RSS feed, huh? I've got one right now, I think.

Only thing is, I usually jump straight to your page rather than read the feed-- my other friend is a prolific poster via twitter, so the feed is often flushed right out.

I'll have to look at wordpress... mayhaps I will change, if it has features I would use.

I liked the styles better, and the traffic-tracking features are pretty nifty. Plus it's much easier to do pictures in-line with text. And that's just what I've found out in the first couple of days of tinkering.

As a first impression, I'd say that WordPress is a much more powerful publishing platform, but LiveJournal has the superior community features (which is why it's popular). But if you're like me and don't use the community features so much, it's no big deal either way. ;)

Well, it certainly wouldn't hurt for me to check it out... started an account, will have to see what I an and can't do with it, as time allows.

Wouldn't hurt to have my LJ stuff backed up somewhere else, either, huh?

That was my other thought. For that reason I'm halfway thinking of just cross-posting everything on both accounts, though that seems like a fair amount of trouble.

A fair amount... though if I recall correctly, Deepest Sender is Wordpress compatible as well as LJ-- I wonder how difficult it would be to post to two blogs with it.
