This is kind of a neat concept for self-awareness training: Johari and Nohari windows. How it works: You pick a set of five or six words from the chart that you think best describe yourself, then ask other people to pick ones that describe you, so you can get an idea of how your self-perception relates to others' perception of you. The Nohari one especially is an interesting idea; we're so conditioned to say nice things about people that it's much easier to think of positive words to describe people than negative ones.

So, please contribute to mine, since these are sort of pointless without other input. I'll be happy to return the favor if you want to set up your own.

Boy the Nohari one is WAY tougher to do! For instance, I wound up picking intolerant, smug and cynical but I don't necessarily think of those traits as failings in as far as you display them but that's prolly cause I usually AGREE with you when you display them I.E. your rants about others' stupidity and intolerance. Even the Johari was a little bit of a challenge since I only know the you of LJ and our brief (but always pleasant) interactions at work. I'm thinking I'm gonna try these too.

*laughs* They are kind of tough. Although I've found I'm learning almost as much about myself from *who* says what rather than what they actually say. For instance, a couple of my online friends have been surprised that I picked "irrational", which made me realize exactly how much effort I put into being rational in my online persona.

Brian, on the other hand, didn't have any problem believing it, because he's been a first-line witness to things like my 7 AM Burger King tantrum. (Remind me to tell you that story sometime...;)
