I just discovered that my MacBook saves the volume setting for various audio outputs. So when unplug my headphones to use the external speakers, I don't have to fumble with the volume keys to turn it back up. And when I plug headphones in, I don't risk blasting my ears out.

...that is SO COOL.

I think that's Leopard specifically - I've noticed that too (muted internal speakers, headphone/external speaker output cranked). Mine didn't do it in Tiger. But, yes, it's an awesome feature. I don't have to worry about noises in class, since I almost never listen to anything on the internal speakers.
