Most of my family, as I'm sure I've mentioned before, is Mormon (or a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, to be PC about it). Currently, one of my cousins is on a mission in Germany. This is from his latest letter to family:

Had an interesting contact experience with a Muslim man.... went something like this:
>Hey we are from The Church of Jesus Christ of-
>I know who you are.... you are a soldier of Jesus. I am a soldier of Mohommad. We will one day face each other.... in the field of mortal combat.
>Oh.... I see...
>But, that day is not today.
>Oh good. That joys me.

As a self-identified religious independent, that exchange just amuses the heck out of me. Some of that probably comes from the fact that everything I remember about my cousin (which, admittedly, is from when we were kids) was how sweet and funny he was - imagining him facing anyone on the field of mortal combat is kind of hilarious. But then, maybe I'm just strange...

In all likelihood, the muslim man was joking. I was amused as well.

It's certainly possible. Or he wasn't serious but tried to look serious in order to get the missionaries to leave him alone - you have to admit that'd be a pretty effective way to do so. =D But then, I wasn't there, so I can't really say.

Indeed, it would be.

By the way, you double-posted this entry. :-)

Whether he meant it or not, I love it.
And I didn't know about your family and their... suspect history. (:
(My immediate family are all converts.)

Heh. Yeah, all my near family on my mother's side (aunt, cousins, grandmother) are Mormon, and I think literally all of my extended family (past immediate relations like uncle and grandparents) on my father's side live in Salt Lake City. But our branch of the family tree is kind of the rebellious one...my father's mother came to Alaska and became Baha'i, and my mother met my father up here and became all sorts of relgions currently ending in Scientology, so...*shrug*
