From the "Exploration of Newly-Legal-To-Ingest Mood-Altering Substances" Division: Captain Morgan's Spiced Rum is pretty damn good stuff. Not quite a religious experience (like a couple of scotches I've had), but it's got a lot more flavor than your average dark or light rum, while still having that really awesome rum aftertaste. Definitely recommended, and not too pricey if you can get it on sale.
From the "There Are Annoying Parts To Any Hobby" Division: Buttonholes are an absolute bitch. The machine I have is too old to have a one-step buttonhole feature, and I've been unable to get it to do any specialty stitches anyway (and that's assuming it *does* buttonholes), so that's out. And getting the rows of teeny zig-zag stitches to uniform length is also damn hard to do on a machine. I suppose I can do it all by hand, but that's going to take forever...'course, I've done embroidery before, and it's not that different. Just lots and lots of satin stitching...
Ian, you do realize that I really, really love you, nu?
From the "Fortunately, There Are Fun Parts To Hobbies Too" Division: I went down to JoAnn's again to take advantage of their second 99 cent pattern sale in a week (I have a feeling all the new season patterns are due in soon...). Unfortunately, most of the Butterick ones I was interested in were out of stock, so I only came home with eight, as opposed to bagging my limit of 10. =) Highlights from this trip include a jacket with Chinese frog closures, another fancy party dress (bought with the thought of that blue velvet patterned taffeta in mind), *another* historical costume (19th century British [I think] style dress; I really love Butterick's "Making History" line), a peasant skirt, and a rather pretty corset top. In addition, I picked up some lovely lilac-colored stretch panné velvet and some matching lilac satin (for contrast pockets, etc.) - once I'm done with Ian's shirt, I'm going to make that exercise hoodie/shirt/pants combination. I wonder if I can get it done in time for when my yoga class starts on the first?
And on another note, I wonder how many of these projects will actually get made? *dramatic pause* Only time...will tell.
From the "Speaking Of Dramatic Pauses And Other Such Moments" Division: The Firefly: Serenity trailer is here! Or maybe I should say, "A rather shaky camcorder recording of the preliminary preview for Serenity that was shown at some convention or other has been pirated and has been made available for download!" Gotta love the Internet.
From the "Nothing Fancy, Just An Empty Stomach" Division: I suddenly have a craving for food. Preferably something with garlic. I think I'll have to catch you all later. =)
