If anyone knows any good hay fever cures, please speak up. My nose has been running, I've been sneezing and my eyes've been watering for the past two weeks straight, and although I've never had allergies before I can't think of anything else it could be. I'd rather not take antihistamines since they're supposed to make you sleepy and I hate taking drugs anyway except when I can't help it.

Short of cures, does anyone know how long these things usually keep up? I'm getting a bit tired of blowing my nose every five minutes...

Allergies are funny, see, they can last a LONG time, like this one of yours may last until we get snow, or even further into winter. Some people say that once you have them, you can't get rid of them.
Seriously, the antihistamine thing is not as bad as it sounds, just take half the reccomended adult dose of Benadryl and that usually fixes things. At least, that's how I deal with it. Things like Claratin don't like my body so much which is why I reach for the Benadryl.
All else fails, I'd say you should try to get an appointment with the elusive allergy doctor; rumor has it he'll be here around June.

Loratadine is a handy anti-histimine. Not too expensive either. It's non-drowsy and works pretty well for me. Allergies definately suck. We're getting into that season here. I don't know of any non-medicinal cures for allergies. Well, you could try flushing your sinuses with a saline solution. If you do that about once a day, it should take care of most of your problems. Only thing is, it's pretty gross looking and kinda weird when you do it :D Just run a google search on the subject and you should find some good info on it.

From a long-time sufferer, if you can get your hands on an allergist, that would be a great start. For the last few years, I've been getting injections of the pollens that affect me most (tree, grass, ragweed) to build an immunity.

Within 2 years, I went from spending summers infront of an airconditioner and rubbing my eyes out, to having the occasional runny nose and itchy throat.

I would STRONGLY recommend this. Otherwise, I wish you the best.

No problem, I've done the same thing on occasion. =)

I don't believe there are actually any allergists that reside in Juneau (see above comment about the transient one), and at the moment it's not really serious enough to warrant that kind of treatment (more of an annoyance than a life-interrupting thing, albeit a rather large annoyance). If it gets worse, though, I'll definitely take your advice.

Maybe that's what was kicking my ass in WA.
