Excerpts from IM conversations today:

Brian: Hmm. The Nintendo Revolution (which I thought was an awesome name) is now the Nintendo Wii.
Me: "Wii"?
Brian: Yep. As in, "tip the Wii out of Billy's shoes."

...

Brian: I just realized something. "Nintendo Wii", or in abbreviate-speak: "N Wii."

N Wii, a mispronunciation of ennui, french for a perpetual state of boredom. Well...I think we know what things are going to be like on the new Nintendo.

I'm of the opinion that is the trend since classic NES, actually.

Nintendo seems to be focusing almost entirely on the portable gaming market since the SNES or so - witness how many times both the 64 and the Revolution was/has been delayed, not to mention how much market share they've lost to Microsoft and Sony. However, in the meantime they've easily produced the best gaming systems and libraries for portable gaming - anyone with half a brain ATM would pick the DS over the PSP, for instance. Not so much in the way of hardware capability, but cheaper and with a much, *much* larger game library.

N is for Neville who died of ennui... (http://www.geocities.com/SunsetStrip/Stage/7535/gorey.html)

Sorry, couldn't resist a potential Edward Gorey reference. Thanks for the setup. =D
