An answer from the universe?
Feb. 16th, 2006 01:33 pmA week ago, as you can see if you scroll down a bit, I said I was going to send out a message to the universe that I'd like a decent-paying part-time second job that would let me have Saturday or Sunday off. It's possible that I may have an answer.
There was an ad in the paper today for a part-time Dreyer's merchandiser. It didn't go into specifics, but from what I could tell by searching online, a merchandiser essentially moves merchandise - getting it off the barge and into storage, and also out of storage and onto the shelves. It's the sort of job that has flexible hours and requires the ability to work independently as well as to be personable and create a rapport with the store managers that you'll be checking in with. In other words, the kind of thing that'd be right up my lane.
I called the number on the ad and got the distributor in Seattle; he pretty much confirmed what I'd found out, and said that they could probably work around my current work schedule fairly easily. At the moment the job is something like 12 to 15 hours a week on MWF and Saturday - 4 to 5 hours on Monday (since that's when the barge comes in) and two or three hours the rest of the week, though there's possible room for expansion. He asked me to fax my resumé over, which I did promptly.
I really think this could be a great opportunity - not only were they offering a higher pay rate than Fred's (or even Costco), but it's pretty much everything I was hoping for in a second job - a fairly non-strenuous schedule, not customer-service oriented, probably (though I haven't confirmed this) not much in the way of a dress code, friendly people to work with (at least, the guy I talked to was friendly, even though I'd only be working directly with him about once a week). So I guess we'll see if he calls me back sometime this week...
