Kitties are doing much better now, thanks to the extra litterbox and having a bit more time to get used to each other. Haven't had any more presents, which is good. Still haven't heard Dexter purr, yet, but he'll relax enough eventually.

One funny thing I've noticed, though, is that even though we only have two cats, it seems like there's about four times as much cat in the house as there was when we just had one. Perhaps catness multiplies by the square of the number of actual felines?

We have two cats, but a lot of the time it seems like we have an entire herd of cats running around, I think the catly presence is an exponential function rather than an additive one.

"Exponential function" - that's the phrase I was looking for. Thanks. :)

Unfortunately, this morning they were hissing and chasing each other around the house - I think Dexter's decided that the visitor has outstayed his welcome. I put Mr. Jerry Brown in the second bedroom (with food/water/litterbox, of course) and shut the door; I also put Dexter's food bowl near the door with the hope of creating some positive associations. Do you have any other suggestions as to what might help them get along better? I don't know if you've ever had this problem, but I'm more or less clueless as to how to get them to at least tolerate each other...

It just takes time, they'll get used to the fact that they have to share space.

Keeping Jerry in the bedroom for a bit will probably help as well.
