So I wake up this morning and check the local news page, and under the "National Coverage" section, the first two headlines are:

Roberts: Roe vs. Wade "entitled to respect"

Bush taking responsibility for blunders

Now, admittedly, neither of these are as good as they could be. The quotes from Roberts' round of questioning with the Senate are a great real-life representation of the tap dance scene from Chicago - he's very good at answering questions without actually giving any solid answer. However, the fact that he didn't dismiss the issue out of hand (despite being Roman Catholic and conservative) gives me a modicum of hope. Only a modicum, but hey, it's more than I had before.

As for Bush...well, it's very big of him to take responsibility, and certainly not something I expected, but it seems a bit late for that...it would have been better if he had left Clinton's FEMA alone, rather than slashing its budget and appointing a horse show overseer - a fired horse show overseer - to run it. (Think I'm joking?)

But hey. At least it's a step in the right direction. Now if only I could hold out some sort of hope that it won't be directly followed by nine steps back...
