Been an interesting year, I suppose. The thrill of "I can buy alcohol now" has mostly worn off, which is probably why I have a few various bottles sitting up in a cupboard whose levels haven't really changed much in the last several months. Seems like I don't even finish a bottle of wine anymore - I've had two go bad lately because Brian and I would open them for a nice dinner and then just not finish them. They were both good wine, too.

As to the rest of it...no, I guess I really don't feel that much older, but I certainly know that time has passed, regardless. For one thing, I have a car now - I certainly didn't have that last year on my birthday. For another thing, I'm going to be becoming more or less financially independent soon; while somewhat scary, it's also a good thing, I think.

Got several packages from my mother yesterday, mostly consisting of things she's not going to want when she moves. There were some nice things like candles and silk plants, the latter of which make our kitchen look much less bare. But there were also some things that she'd been saving for me - a couple of my formal dresses from when I was younger, including the one that my grandmother and I made together; a crystal glitter-globe with an angel in it that was a Christmas gift many years ago; a sun-catcher that she's had since before I was born, that is in fact the subject of one of my earliest memories.

In a way, I think these were really sweet and thoughtful gifts - while I'm most appreciative of the linens and pillows and other housewares she bought for me while here (which is pretty much her "official" birthday present), these have a little more meaning. Considering how I've been bouncing around the state, lately,
and have thrown/given away so many of my posessions from when I was younger...I guess you could say it feels like I have my childhood back. Or bits and pieces of it, anyway.

In any case, it was all a lovely birthday present.

I think the reward for "bestest birthday present of all time" goes to Brian, though - he got me the most gorgeous pendant over at Fire & Ice (local jewelry store that does amazing work). It's heart-shaped, of course, but hangs from an angle to make it a little less traditional, and consists of 1/4 carat worth of diamonds in a platinum setting that form the outline, with a smaller white-gold heart attached that holds the chain. The chain itself is quite lovely, too - it's called a "sparkle chain", which I can say from looking at it is really quite apt. The links are very highly polished and coated with rhodium, which has a silver color, doesn't tarnish, and is very reflective.

Quite honestly, it's the most beautiful piece of jewelry I own.

I was going to post pictures, as well as the many I've been taking of Dexter lately, but I can't seem to find my camera cable *anywhere*. I guess I should see what Nikon wants for another one. Grr.

That aside, however, the warm purring kitty in my lap has decided it's mealtime. So off I go...

Thank you to my mother and Brian, who have made this a wonderful birthday season. =)

Edit: Found my camera cable...in my iPod bag, no less. (Isn't moving fun?) Should have pictures of both pendant and pussycat up soon. ;)

Shows you how alert to things I've been. Happy Birthday.

I'm waiting on Harry Day, myself.

Anything in particular you want but don't have at the moment? I feel bad for forgetting.

How could you forget? It's all of ten days before yours! =)

Gifts not necessary (dunno if I'll have the resources to buy you one, on time at least) but if you really want to, an eBay or Amazon gift card is always nice. :)
