Good weekend, all told.
Apr. 18th, 2005 09:40 amThe play is finally over with - we struck the set on Saturday night. It went well enough, all things considered - there could have been some improvements, but given the time frame and constraints we were working with (small stage, small budget, shortage of actors), I'd say it went pretty darn well. Though oddly enough, I had to see my friend's reactions to the play itself before remembering my first reaction to the script - it's rather macabre and surreal. I guess a couple months' worth of practicing the various lines made me forget just how odd of a play it was.
We actually took a second bow on Saturday night. There was enough applause to take one Friday night, but we were too shy...but on Saturday, they wouldn't stop applauding. So we kind of looked at each other and finally Jerry went out and the rest of us sort of followed him. Out of order, but hey.
Much thanks to Ian (
errant_variable), Alison (
arison), and Brian (
likable_lemur) for their help in striking. It made things go a lot faster.
It is kind of bittersweet taking everything down; while I'm more than glad to have enough time to have a life back (not to mention enough time to have a decent relationship with Brian again), I'm going to miss the work we've been doing on this production. Performing it was fun, but I think the best part was really seeing the whole thing come together. Not to mention the frantic swings from "This is the awesomest thing I've ever done" to "Oh God I'm never going to work on one of these again". I don't think I'm going to be doing another one in the near future (I like having a life, thank you very much), and I'm suddenly unsure if I'm going to want to do this for a living (I don't really handle stress all that well), but I know I'll want to do one again at some point. Even if it's just as a hobby. (Though, as Brian pointed out, it'd probably be better if I didn't have a full time course load plus a job on top of it. Maybe if I find some way to make money at it. But then, isn't that everyone's dream? =)
Meantime, I've been in a bit of a need of new clothes, so I went by Alaska Dames & Gents (local consignment shop for clothing/furniture/etc.) to see what they had. Ended up buying four different shirts and two pairs of pants, including the first pair of pleather clubbing pants I've ever come across that actually fit me. (Biggish hips + small waist = need a belt with most pants, and that doesn't work so well with dress pants). $45 or so, all told...considering that that's about what one pair of non-sale jeans would cost me down at Fred Meyer's, I think I made out pretty well. And I love $5 racks.
Yesterday was spent with Brian doing various domestic things like grocery shopping (we're trying to cut down on the number of times we go out to eat), perusing the Arts and Crafts fair at the local mall, looking at new cars, and generally enjoying having a life again. Even though we both like the way the Civic hybrid looks, I couldn't get past the fact that the Prius gets 60/51 miles per gallon. Not to mention it's bigger and cooler on the inside. So he agreed that we could get one if we got a vanity plate for it that says "NORLCO" (he thinks they look like electric shavers, and lets face it, they sort of do). I agreed, so if/when we manage to get ourselves one (we'd like to in the next five years or so, given the way gas prices are going) we'll name it "Norelco". ;)
Haven't heard back from the Four Seasons Marine people, but it could be they're just busy. Hope one of my former bosses didn't give me a bad reference. =s
Oh, well, even if that doesn't work out I can still call Ron Fraze back this Friday...

Date: 2005-04-18 11:47 am (UTC)Re: Prius... I'd say you should find a way to make the electric motors make noise, and put the tag "humm3r" on it instead. Or you can go Norelco, and I can do that with an alochol-and-electric motorcycle (a bike's gotta make noise, even if it is the charged capacitor bank.)
*blink* Capacitor bank... sudden urge to build railgun accessory for motorcycle... tell your boyfriend that I'll be in touch about that idea...
Capacitor bank

Date: 2005-04-18 12:43 pm (UTC)I think you should stick with it, even it's only as a hobby (which would probably work better). You're really good at theater, and it does seem to be something you enjoy.
Oooh, remind me to swing by 'Dames & Gents more often...
Heh on the cars licence plate. Am I going to be allowed to photograph this? *hopeful*
