Had a bit of an adventure last night involving my car, Peter, Thelonius-Brian, a shovel and a metric assload of rock salt. Fortunately, with their help, I was able to both excavate my car from the snow drifted all around it *and* get it out of the parking space. Mass thanks to both of them for their help, and to Thelonius-Brian for the rock-salt idea. Unfortunately, Juneau-Brian was too tired to make it to our first ballroom dance class, which was rather disappointing. Given that he's been literally shoveling snow all freaking week (his job requires him to drive around town a lot, and it's been snowing hard for the last four days straight...you do the math), however, I hardly blame him. I'm sure we'll be able to catch up, and I'd much rather that he didn't wear himself out. I want him to last a long time. =) Anyway, I headed over to his place, and we were all nicely bedded down at about 9:30 and headed towards sleep when his mother told me I needed to be parked in the driveway so the snow removal people could come through (unbeknownst to her, they already had). So I proceeded to get my car stuck in the first few feet of their driveway and got to dig it out once more, *and* push it myself this time. Yay. Eventually we got the driveway mostly clear and I was able to get up it, but I think I might've strained the muscles between my arms/shoulders - anything I pick up today feels about five pounds heavier than it actually is.

God, I love having a car. =D

Fortunately, I was able to get home this morning with minimal problems, and even more fortunately it's STOPPED SNOWING. Finally. Also, it seems to be warming up some, though not so quickly as the weather people were reporting...but hey, as long as it DOESN'T SNOW for the next few days until the city can get caught up on the plowing and whatnot (or at least until I can get past my first Monday of driving downtown and back twice), I'm going to be much happier.

Anyway, since I don't have work until 1, I think I'm going to read a bit and then head back to bed. Have a good morning, everyone...

...a metric assload of rock salt.

A metric assload? I like it. Consider it stolen ;)

Heh. Considering that it wasn't mine in the first place (don't know where I picked it up), feel free. If you have more than a metric assload, btw, it's generally considered a metric fuckload. ;)

You picked it up from either me or Brian A. - and if you picked it up from me I got it from him, so blame him indirectly. A lot of people use "assload" or "fuckload" but few are precise enough to use metric deliniations. :)

Actually, looking back, I think I picked it up some time ago from the Childfree community...the first instance I can remember is someone talking about giving kids metric assloads of candy if they actually trick-or-treat on Halloween (as opposed to on the Friday nearest, as a lot of parents wanted them to do). So it's quite likely he picked it up from me, and you from him. =)

hmm... no, he was using it before you were hanging out with him, and I think before you got into LJ

Ahhh... the wonders of metric. Is there anything it can't do *sigh*

Now, would you say that a metric shitload would be larger or smaller than a metric assload? I will assume that a metric fuckload would be the largest of this size category. Furthermore, you really can't have "fuck" and "ass" without "shit"... it's like the holy trinity of cussing.

Hm, good point. I'd say a metric shitload would probably be somewhere in the middle between a metric assload and a metric fuckload.

Of course, considering that we're talking about imaginary amounts that have no standardized measurements, this is all relative. ;)

Well, you're welcome for the help with the car, but I'm afraid I have to repeat this: I really wish you'd quit calling me Thelonious-Brian.

I'm afraid that I'm going to have to agree with Peter and the hobgoblin dude on this one - what's your problem? It's not like it's derogatory in any way, and it's generally necessary, and I happen to think it's a damn cool nickname. Do you just have to complain about *something* all the time? No offense, or anything, but I've noticed your tendency to do so, and it's really not a very attractive habit.

True and true.

> and I happen to think it's a damn cool nickname.

Which is where we disagree. I'm aware that other people think it's cool, but I don't like how it looks or sounds. And I really don't think it suits me as well as you -- or anybody else -- seem to think it does.

For my part, after some thought, I'd much rather be introduced to people as "Brian Taylor," and -- when some sort of differential nickname is necessary -- as Brian O'Blivion.

*Shrug*

Well, it's not quite as funny when you say it as it is in print, but if that's what you'd prefer, I can do my best to oblige. I just wish you would've told me earlier. ;)

> Well, it's not quite as funny when you say it as it is in print...

Heh. Yeah. Well, let's put it this way: I just prefer it as a long-term nickname than the first name of a musical legend. Perhaps because I love David Cronenberg movies -- especially "Videodrome," from which said name is drawn -- a lot more than I do bebop jazz.

> I just wish you would've told me earlier. ;)

Heh. Likewise. Regardless, what's done is done, and all that jazz. In a manner of speaking.

Actually, I think the name "Thelonius" originally derived from an ancient Greek or Roman philosopher (can't remember which, but we read a bit about him in Art History); which would seem to me to be much more up your alley. So you can imagine my puzzlement when you expressed displeasure...

Heh...

This is true. But I was always using Thelonious as in Thelonious Monk, brilliant pianist and one of the founders of bebop. Whose work I admire, if not exactly enjoy, and hence here we are.

Yay for misunderstandings! =)

It seems Monsieur Taylor wrote this half-complaint a little too impulsively, for Brian should have spoken about this in person, as he now can do.

Is a metric assload heavier than an imperial assload?

Date: 2005-01-21 10:47 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] hobgobblin201.livejournal.com
no i do bleave that an imperial assload is much
heavier, thoughi was never really that good with the metric system, though an omni fuckload would probly trump all of the "fuck loads"
