Was looking through listings for state jobs just now, and came across this gem in a posting looking for a secretary:

MUST HAVE GOOD TELEPHONE ETIQUETTE AND THE ABILITY TO USE PROPER GRAMMER, PUNCTUATION AND SPELLING SKILLS.

I wonder if I should send them my resumé, all typed out and neatly formatted, with a little line of 8-point text at the bottom that says, "And by the way, you misspelled "grammar" in the job posting." ;)

Not to mention that the final three items aren't parallel. It should be "Must have ..., spelling skills, and the ability to use proper grammar and punctuation."

I noticed that, but I figured that it's sort of up for grabs - theoretically, you should be able to use grammar skills, punctuation skills, and spelling skills. It does sound rather awkward, though. ;)

Or how about just "use proper grammar, spelling, and punctuation".

(Is that period supposed to be inside or outside the quotes? < laugh >)

I guess if they'd used these guidelines last time they hired a secretary this set of guidelines would be correct.

And yes, if you send them your resume, do include that PS.
