--The concert tonight was fantastic. Not quite as formal as Alexander Tutinov's classical piano concert a couple of weeks ago, but possibly even more fun. Tutinov wore a coat with tails, had a very strict program, and was rather obviously nervous during the between-piece introductions. Barney McClure, on the other hand, wore a tweed jacket and bow tie, cracked jokes all night, and (for the first solo half of the concert) played pretty much whatever came to mind. They did have one thing in common, though - both of them were having the time of their lives while playing. Later on, the singers (my music teacher, Joyce Parry-Moore, and a young man with a beautiful voice named Jason Alexander) did some Cole Porter songs, many of which were absolutely hilarious. Juneau-Brian and I both enjoyed ourselves immensely.

--Earlier today, I was out getting things to wear for the concert - shoes, hose, etc. My checking account balance being what it is, I went to the local thrift shop and managed to find a rather pretty pair of black suede-type shoes that went rather well with the dress. Since they were only $1, I splurged on a really pretty (and very sparkly) silver-and-cubic-zirconium necklace/earring set they had at Fred's, of all places. It's so rare that they have really pretty jewelry that's *not* in the fine jewelry section...most of what they sell in the normal-person-budget section is rather tacky. Or at least, that's what I told myself to justify the extra $15 expense. ;)

--I also bought a pair of pantyhose to wear with my black kerchief-hem knee-length dress, and they lasted through the whole night with no runs. Go me.

--Nice things about living in a small(ish) town: When I pulled into some parking lot or other while I was out running errands today, I had a guy knock on my window. When I asked him what was up, he said that his niece was the previous owner of this car, and he wanted to tell me that she had put a brand-new engine into it a year or two ago, before her father "repossessed" it. I didn't ask for details, but it was kind of nice to know. Yay for Marian and me. =) Now if I can just get that exhaust manifold leak fixed once I get my dividend...

--Ian is courting me again, though as a potential roommate rather than a potential lover this time. Apparently things aren't working so well with the roommate he and Monica got to replace me, as she has a tendency to clutter up *every* available surface and doesn't clean very often and generally acts self-centered. (Granted, I was very similar when I was 18 and just moved out of my mother's place, but as Ian put it, "I already went through this with you. I don't want to do it again.") I'm actually considering the possibility, based on a few factors - (a) Come December, I'm going to need a place to stay for at least a couple of weeks until the campus opens again, (b) rent there would be cheaper than living in the dorms ($350 a month rather than $500, plus an extra $50 or so for phone/internet) (c) I really like Monica, and Ian and I are getting along much better now, and (d) now that I have a car, the place is actually a pretty convenient distance from campus. Plus it's a fairly nice apartment, and the landlord is great, though the plumbing needs to be worked on (something that Ian and Monica [and apparently the landlord] have been trying to get done for some time). Plus I'd be able to (legally) drink wine, there. So we'll see how it goes, come the end of the semester.

--Running over one's toe with one of the Lodge's 60's-style steel industrial vacuum cleaners tends to hurt. But at least I have a clean floor, now.

--Laundry day tomorrow. Bah.

--Firefly party likely tomorrow. Yay!
