missroseroseThings are going slightly better lately. Ryan took me out after work last night to celebrate our kinda-sorta one-year anniversary; we got all dressed up and went out to see "Hero". I honestly wasn't expecting to like it that much, but it had gotten decent reviews and looked like the most interesting thing that was out (which should tell you something about the movie selection here in Juneau, as normally I'm not much of a martial-arts-flick type person).
Quite frankly, I was awed.
For one thing, it actually had a relatively engaging (if slightly slow) story. For another, the visuals were absolutely gorgeous. The fighting was well choreographed and fit with the story well, even if I wouldn't necessarily have spent so much time on it; on the whole, I was pretty wowed. That film was a work of art.
Afterwards, we went down to the Hangar and had some food, as well as some excellent wine (for you Juneauites out there, I recommend their Washington Syrah; tasted like a 1998-99 vintage and had a very nice flavor). And then we went for breakfast over at the Heritage Cafe this morning, and well...it was a generally pleasant time.
Also, my nude-tattooed-geisha wall scrolls got here, and they look pretty fantastic, too. Lovely tastefully-done Japanese style artwork. Maybe I'll post pictures sometime. At least my walls don't look quite so empty now.
And off I go to work and class again...
