"There are in this world a set of women who we all deserve to spend a set of time with. They are beautiful, intelligent, and despite varying levels of sanity, destined for greater things than we can imagine. Love them. Love that for a brief time you had them, and they wanted you more than anyone else in the world. Then drink up, suck it up, and move on."

... that's actually a remarkably depressing line, in a lot of ways, and for a lot of reasons. It's the kind of thing the guy at the end of the bar might say, four sheets to the wind since noon and trying to put some kind of perspective on the fact that his wife left him for a Puerto Rican poolboy named Manolo so he doesn't feel like crying about it.

Or maybe I'm just in that kind of drunken, boozed-out mindset because I've felt rather hung over all day -- despite there being no booze involved at any point.

*Shrug.*

Yes, it's depressing. Of course, considering that most of my relationships are in a similarly depressing state, I'd say it's somewhat justified.

Change "women" to "people" and you have my history of love relationships right there.

Point. Unfortunately. About all I can say -- and comforting it probably is not, although comforting's not something that works too often with me -- is that you are only 20, and it's not too often you meet twenty-year olds with proven, successful, non-depressing-as-Hell histories of relationships. So one of these days you might just get into one that... works. Sticks. Hangs together.

Call me a silly idealist (it wouldn't be the first time) but one of these days I'm counting on finding one of those beautiful (in the non-worldly way), insane women and hopefully sticking with them for a long time...

Then again, the only girl I've dated was my girlfriend for five years, and I still consider her one of my best friends.

Maybe I'm just weird. :)

I wouldn't say you're weird. Just damned lucky.

Messy breakups suck. Bad/no relationships with previous exboyfriends/girlfriends suck. Having the opportunity to rebuild what was once a beautiful relationship thrown in your face by an unwilling partner sucks even more, especially when you so richly deserve it.

I'd say you're very lucky to have avoided all of this. On the other hand, I still have hope for my future, whoever it may be with...and even if it isn't "with" anyone, I still have myself.

Well... things weren't perfect in that relationship. We went our separate ways once I left Indy, and it's probably for the better.

If it was good luck, I'm certainly paying for it now. My attempts with the opposite sex ever since have been rather unspectacular. :)

@ anonymous poster (yes, I KNOW WHO YOU ARE!!!) - You may want to talk to Rose about infringement, she's been using that one a lot recently. Ive slipped once or twice but that's about it. :P

Re: previous posts...

@ Eventhewaves - every relationship succeeds until it doesnt. The amount of time this takes may vary. Once this is understood the past becomes less depressing.
[/zenlike BS]

@Roseneko - ever consider that you might be one of those "special" people? Least third party in my case isnt Puerto Rican, or a poolboy, or has exotic names... but he is about as close as you can get as a stock model around here, considering the price of import and shipping. :P

@Moonwick: Ouch. If you can keep one that isnt quite working going for 5 years, however... its going to be cool seing what you do with one that *works*. Good luck.
