That was...surreal.

missroseroseI just had what was probably the strangest exchange with a telemarketer in my three years of working here. To wit:
"J&W, this is Rose."
{cheerfully} "Hi, can I talk to Wade please?"
"Sorry, he's out of town. Would you like his voicemail?"
"Actually, what was his cell phone number again?"
"I can't give that information out, are you sure you won't leave a message?"
{Telemarketer says something garbled in the same cheerful tone}
"I'm sorry, could you repeat that?"
{equally cheerfully} "You little cuntrag."
Obviously, at that point I hit the "release" button on the phone, but it left me a bit taken aback - it's not very often you encounter people (or telemarketers) that unschooled or uncaring about social mores, especially in positions that require a lot of public contact. Unfortunately, his caller ID was blocked, so I can't trace him and email his boss like I did this guy, but since he didn't get either the information or the reaction he was after, I'm not too unhappy. I sort of wish I'd come up with a cutting reply to deliver before hanging up, but he took me by surprise. I'll have to keep a couple handy in case it happens again. :)
