Music and fish
Sep. 22nd, 2008 07:53 amWas a good weekend, all told. Bit quieter than I'd planned, but pleasant nonetheless. Brian and I went to the public-radio-benefit all-you-can-eat seafood festival, which was great fun (and had fantastic fish!). We were planning to attend the beer tasting prior, but unfortunately life got in the way and we didn't end up making it in time. So instead we had fish and salad and some excellent bread from the Silverbow. And there was live accordion music! That was pretty awesome. The only disappointment was that we'd intended to take Monica and possibly Lydia along, and neither of them were able to come for various reasons. But it was still fun. And delicious.
While we were in the serving line, Andy (the KXLL guru, whom someone, in an apparent lapse of judgment, had put in charge of salads) told me that the Big Chief of the KTOO stations had come across my previous post on how much better community radio had made my day, and that apparently made his day. So hurrah for passing on good feelings.
Sunday was a bit quieter, although we did venture out to see Tom May, a traveling folk singer who also plays a mean pennywhistle. That made for a perfectly enjoyable evening, although Brian and I were amused to realize that we were probably the youngest people there by an average of about twenty years. The music and atmosphere were nice and relaxing; my only real complaint was that the booze providers somehow saw fit to cater an event in Juneau and not include Alaskan Brewing Company products. (WTF, dude? Nobody drinks Budweiser around here for a reason.) Fortunately, there was also a representative from one of the bakeries in town, so we ended up spending our beer money on tasty baked treats, which were almost as good as Alaskan Summer Ale. :)
So on the whole, we ended up with no wine (or beer), and no women, but plenty of song (and good food). I think I'll call that one a win.
