missroseroseBrian and I are looking at possibly moving to another apartment.
Believe it or not, our plans for moving out of town are firming up some, but it's going to be another year and a half (at least), and our current place is starting to feel a bit cramped. (This is in part due to the usual accumulation of stuff, but probably also in part due to the aforementioned neighbors - they haven't woken us at 2 AM again, but they're pretty continually noisy during evening hours, which is kind of annoying.)
So, after several weeks of poking around kinda-sorta-looking, we've found a place that's nice enough to justify moving. But, here're the catches: 1.) it's $200 more per month in rent, and 2.) it's waaaaay the heck out in North Douglas, which means we'd be going from a less-than-five-minute commute to a twenty-five-minute commute (more if it's snowy and the roads are bad). I realize twenty-five minutes probably isn't that long to most of you city folk, but it feels like a lot farther when that's literally about the longest commute you can have in this town.
There are some pretty persuasive elements in the new place's favor, though. To wit:
--It's significantly larger (ETA: Actually, it's roughly the same size. However, the layout is much more open so it feels bigger.)
--FULL SIZE NON-SHARED NON-COIN-OP WASHER AND DRYER WOOT!
--It's significantly more private (the advantage of the twenty-five minute commute)
--It's located above the garage of a large house (so we can make as much noise with our home theater as we like)
--It's extremely well kept up - pretty much everything except the bathroom fixtures is newer and nicer than our current place
--It has a lot of little things that our current place doesn't: counter space in the bathroom, well-placed overhead lighting, a dishwasher, etc.
--The kitchen is much larger, with nicer cabinetry
And so forth.
So...is all that worth the extra cash and commute, plus the hassle of moving? I'm thinking so. Hopefully our friends will still visit us when we're half an hour away instead of five minutes away. =)
