missroserose: (Book Love)
This actually makes me somewhat sorry that I never went back and tried to edit/refine that chunk of words I wrote for NaNoWriMo last year. Both because it's a hilarious idea, and because it could be some valuable feedback.

I'm halfway thinking of trying to do a marathon editing session over the next few days. Except I have stuff I'm scheduled to be doing. Like flying across the continent, and spending some time with my husband. Stuff like that.

Still, it's entertaining, and gives me an idea of stuff to look out for in the future.

missroserose: (Psychosomatic)
Brian and I went out shooting today (since I probably won't get an opportunity while I'm in Anchorage visiting my mother), and at one point I went to hitch up my pants. With a loaded gun in my hand. With the safety off. And my finger (which I thought was on the trigger guard) on the trigger.

Fortunately, while I wasn't following Rule #3 (keep your finger off the trigger until you are ready to shoot), I was following rule #2 (never point the gun at anything you are not willing to destroy) - in this case, at the ground - so when my finger inevitably squeezed the trigger, nothing was hurt. It was close enough to my foot, however, to make me hyperventilate for a good ten seconds, as well as mentally kick myself for not flicking the safety on (or even better, putting the gun down entirely).

Oddly enough, after I was done with that part, I went on to shoot six beer bottles from 10 yards away with the remaining eight bullets in the magazine. Apparently a little bit of adrenaline is good for the aim...
