New glasses!
Jul. 19th, 2006 01:23 pmWell, not quite yet. But the eye appointment went pretty well and I have a new pair on order. They're actually quite cute - I didn't really like the geek-chic thick-rimmed ones, but didn't necessarily want rimless, either...so I ended up with a great compromise - smallish oval lenses with thick rims on top but rimless along the bottom. It sounds like kind of a weird design (and it probably is), but it actually looks really awesome, and fits my face and personality quite well. Theoretically, they'll be here by the end of next week, so I'll have to see if I can take a picture. Maybe I'll even (gasp!) make a new userpic, since I've had this one for, oh...*counts on fingers* a year and a half now.
As for the actual appointment experience, it was perfectly okay; the doctor was pleasant, if not hugely talkative. What was really cool, though, was the guy who sold me the glasses (I think he's the shop owner, but I'm not entirely sure). You know how occasionally you find someone who just really loves what they do for a living, and it shows in their work? Well, this guy doesn't just sell eyeglasses to pay the bills - he really loves selling eyeglasses. Instead of just leaving me alone to pick a frame out on my own, he helped me find a shape that went well with my face, and took measurements of my eyes to find a size of frame that would work well, and asked me about my job/personality to determine the style that would best suit me, and was generally just incredibly helpful. We got to talking while he was ringing up the charges - apparently he was in the army about fifteen years ago as a medic, and when he got out he took the first job he was offered, which just happened to be selling eyeglasses, and loved it so much that he hasn't left the business since. It's always cool to find people who love their job, but somehow it's so much cooler when you find someone who's perfectly at home in such an odd niche market as that.
