The boring, everyday kinds of things...

missroseroseDespite the predictions of various suicide cults and doomsday pundits, life continues in pretty much the same vein as before. Brian and I have been tackling Guitar Hero lately, which is a game sort of like Dance Dance Revolution with a guitar - takes a fair amount of coordination and rhythm skill. Not to mention a heckuva lot of self-control not to play it nonstop all weekend. :)
In this week's News from the Kitchen, I haven't tried any major cooking projects lately. Brian, however, has expressed the desire for an apple pie. There's a couple of good recipes in The Joy of Cooking, so I've cut a deal with him - if he buys me a pastry blender and a rolling pin (since he used the core of my last one to prop up his tomato plant) I'll be happy to make him one. In the meantime, however, he bought a really nice set of cookware to replace the servicable but mismatched (and non-nonstick) pots and pans that we inherited from his mother. I cooked with them for the first time last night and I have to say I was really impressed with the nonstick "food release system" - it appears to work as well as advertised. They're pretty darn nice quality, too. Here's hoping they last us a good long while. Meantime, I was able to find a good home for our previous pots and pans with Monica and Eric, since they're planning on moving out of her parents' house soon and will need housewares. Since we also invested in some good tupperware, I spent a fair amount of this weekend rearranging the cabinets to be a little less messy and more accessible. Still need to redo the major food cabinet, though...
Incidentally, Brian and I weren't the only ones benefiting from the tupperware purchase - the box happened to be just the right size for Dexter to sit in. And sit in. And sit in, looking out at the world around him and just happy as a clam. As my coworker Conrad put it, "Ah, the cat equivalent of a new car."
I also got some hilarious pictures of Mr. Jerry Brown relaxing in their small kitty bed...I'll have to see about uploading them for posting.
Anyway, back to monitoring the phones, I suppose...
