After nine Thanksgivings

Today, I finally discovered the secret flavor in my college roommate's amazing cranberry-orange sauce.

Today, I am a man.

Speaking figuratively. :)

So what was the ingredient?

Cinnamon, believe it or not. I knew about the cranberry and orange, but I always figured it was ginger and somehow it never came out tasting quite like I remembered. Here's what we made this year:

2 cups sugar
2 bags cranberries
Zest and juice of 3 medium oranges
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1 cinnamon stick

Simmer over medium heat until the cranberries burst and it looks like sauce. A slice or two of fresh ginger would probably go in pretty well, too. :)

I did something different this year:

1 can of whole berry cranberry sauce
1 sm. can of crushed pineapple, drained
1/4 cup chopped pecans
1/8 tsp. cinnamon
1/8 tsp. nutmeg
1 pinch cloves
Mix and serve.

Easy and really surprisingly delicious.

That does sound tasty. I may try it with fresh sometime.

That's more or less the recipe that Jer's mom used in her cranberry sauce--and she added dice apples to the mix.

Mmmm... Tasty.

I subscribe to the Jerry Seinfeld school of flavors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WNcrrwQwskw
