Initially I was thinking something along the lines of what Brian said - it had been a short and embarrassment-filled reign, so the family had sort of swept it under the rug - but you bring up a good point. Positive or negative, it's still part of the Empire's history, and Eusebia doesn't seem the sort to gloss over things when it comes to teaching her successor. On the other hand, this is something that's personally painful for her, so that could explain why she's waited this long to explain it...perhaps if I mentioned earlier in the story somewhere that there had been a couple of bad years in the line of succession that nobody much talked about...
