Fortunately, I got a referral from a friend to a dentist in Douglas, and they got me in on the 9th. Still not ideal, but better than two weeks by a long shot. And the drive's about the same as to SV, but at least it's not to strip mall/Big Box world...in fact, Douglas is right on the border. So maybe I'll take the opportunity to see if the other side has any of those fabled Cheap Booze stores I keep hearing about. :)
