I love Christmas. It's the only time of year I can run around madly on Amazon, buying all the things I'm constantly thinking "Ooo! She would love this!" throughout the year.

Also, a few of you might have noticed that I've joined the Amazombie horde. I figure that I spend enough time here talking about books and movies that I might as well post links to them; so if someone wants to buy one, hooray - it's a bit more cash to finance my book-buying habits. No pressure or anything, though. I'm honestly not expecting to make much off of it, but if it adds up over the course of a year or two, so much the better.

You would not believe the shit I've gotten from people for putting our baby registry on Amazon instead of going to Target or Babies R Us. My mother thought I was nuts. My MIL flat out refused to tell anyone on her side of the family that we registered online. I do not understand why this is so confusing to people. Go online! People order stuff online all the time! If you don't want to go online, then just go to any old store and buy us something! But why on Earth would I lock myself into Babies R Us's limited selection and high prices when people can get MORE for less money and less aggravation at Amazon!?!?!? /rant

...Wow. I've heard of people's families throwing shit fits about weird ass things before, but this has to take the cake. About the only thing I can figure is that large life events (weddings, childbirths) are so fraught with tradition because the familiarity helps people adjust to the change, and they therefore get tetchy when you start messing with their traditions...but still. Wow.

Yeah, the whole thing has been strange. My MIL made a huge deal about it when we got married. She threw a reception for us, she made sure that all of her friends and all of the extended family was involved. It was really touching and wonderful. So I was surprised when her reaction to the pregnancy was so different from that. We made a trip to Chicago last month and the family acted like they were pretty much too busy to see us. I'm confused by it but not dwelling on it. Other fish to fry, ya know?
