Yay games!

Not a whole lot of note has happened since Brian and I returned from PAX. Work is still more or less the same, and Juneau's still Juneau. One side-effect of the trip, though, seems to have been an affirmation of our gamer selves - I've noticed a distinct upswing in the time we've spent gaming since we got back. (Admittedly, some of this is probably due to the local Costco and Fred Meyer actually getting in some decent games, combined with the fact that the game-making industry itself is in a surge following the next-gen console releases, as evidenced by the numerous interesting games coming out for them.) Gaming often being a social activity, I guess we'd lost some of our enthusiasm since there are relatively few people our age to game with here in town. But going to essentially one huge gaming party did a lot to revive it.

Right now Brian's engrossed in Metroid Prime 3: Corruption on the Wii, which, although it doesn't particularly interest me, I have to admit is one of the most thoroughly well-executed games I've ever seen. Meanwhile, I've been playing Kingdom Hearts II on the PS2, which I'm enjoying despite the fact that I'm still not entirely certain what's going on in the storyline. (Playing the first one first might not have been a bad plan from a story perspective, but my enthusiasm for any given game tends not to necessarily last throughout the whole game, and I've read that the second one is superior in sheer gameplay terms. So I'm sort of piecing it together as I go along. And if all else fails, there's always Wikipedia.)

On the "highly anticipated" list for future playing: Odin Sphere, Mass Effect, Guitar Hero III, and if we can get Chris and Jeanne and Adam over often enough to make the investment worthwhile, Rock Band, which is essentially Guitar Hero with four people on different "instruments".

Plus, my mother's interested in trying out Dance Dance Revolution, so we'll be bringing along a PS2 and my dance pads (which, unfortunately, haven't seen a lot of use lately) when we visit for Thanksgiving. I'm really hoping she enjoys it - it'd be nice to have something gaming-related to share with her.
