Y'know, it's funny. I can usually save a little over $1000 in my savings account, but after that it mysteriously disappears. Sometimes it's for legitimate expenses (car insurance, tuition) and sometimes it's for more frivolous things (furniture), but my savings account appears to have a roughly $1000 ceiling. I've really got to work on that.

This time around, I spent about $825 on new tires for Kitty. Which kind of sucks, but on the other hand, they're all-season tires (so I won't have to switch them in the winter) and they're also the nicest ones Costco had - they should last a good 50,000-60,000 miles at least. I'd say more, but y'know - they're tires. There's just not that much more to say.

Brian is sick again. I'm really starting to worry about the poor boy. I think a lot of it might simply be location - as much as he likes his job, he's really not happy here in Juneau. The constant rain is starting to seriously bug him and he misses his family. I guess it's not so hard for me (I never had much extended family wherever I went, so I'm used to being isolated), but his family seems somewhat tighter-knit than mine. Ideally he'd be able to get over it until we move in a couple of years, but if that isn't an option, I'm beginning to think we should move up our moving plans. As much as I love Juneau and my job here at J&W, having a happy boyfriend is more important. And it certainly couldn't hurt in terms of opportunities for my music career (such as it is).

Yow, what kinda car is that? I think that's what I spent last time for tires on my truck, and they're huge (well, compared to a car anyway).

2004 Mazda3 hatchback. It's got those special low-profile tires that look really awesome but are 'spensive. Plus there's the cost of getting them shipped up here.

Incidentally, I could've gone with the cheaper ones (I think they ran closer to $140 apiece), but I guess I'm too much of the school of "buy it once". =)

More $$ doesn't automatically mean longer life when it comes to tires. I guarantee those $140 tires will last a hell of a lot longer than the $200+ tires for mine. :)

Eh, maybe. The salesguy said these were rated for a longer lifespan, though, so I went with them. Next time I may do a little more research. =)

Expensive tires typically grip better, but last a bit less.

Though the low profile stuff is expensive.

For reference, I got 4 new tires, mounted, for about $125 - total. Then again, it's an old Subaru with 13" wheels.

I also have a separate set of wheels with snow tires mounted on them. Even good "all season" stuff pales in comparison to halfway decent snow tires in the snow/ice.

I'm working on the whole "Location" thing too. Though... I really don't care for my job at this point, or the location, and badly miss and am missed by people in Ames (where I went to college). I'm planning to move back in a few months. I'll probably make less for a while, but at least I won't be lonely & miserable.

Erm... and someone who knew what they were talking about could say a whole lot about tires. I've had some pretty long-winded comments about tires in various places. There's a LOT of complexity in those nice black donuts.
