So yeah.

The folks who we were trying to give money to for a product (What an idea!) have been absolute assholes when I've tried to figure out why their Web site says the telly is in stock and their telephone monkey says it isn't. So that order's getting cancelled - or, really, already has been. Just waiting for confirmation.

And from that grumbling darkness came this:

Sixty-two inches of 1080p glory.

It is a refubished model - though hell, refurb is almost (if not better than) new these days, so that's actually pretty great. Same damn price, too - slightly higher shipping, though.

We'll get to experience Chancellor Sutler's telespittle in all its...um...glory?

We did start this project figuring, eh, maybe a 36" LCD at the largest. It quickly became apparent that would be just barely watchable...and then we started noticing that for the price of that LCD, we could enter the world of rear-projection microdisplays for much, much smaller dollar:inch ratios. So, as of this writing, we're going to be getting a 62" rear-projection single-chip DLP-based television for just over 2300, shipped. That ain't bad at all.

It's my opinion that although 72" DLP/LCoS/LCD-based rear-pro televisions exist, at that size you're really almost better served by front-projection. Generally for the price of the 70+ inchers you can start looking hard at three-chip DLP-based front projectors good for up to 180" or so, it appears.

And back to werkie werk.
