My mother and I are currently reading The Architecture of All Abundance, by Lenedra J. Carroll. The name probably doesn't ring any bells, but she's actually the mother (and financial manager) of Jewel, the singer from Alaska. Her book has some rather interesting ideas about running one's life - for much of her life, she's literally followed the "consider the lilies of the field" philosophy. She just realized one day that she was sick of working crappy jobs that trod on her self-esteem, and decided to quit her job and do things she really cared about. And while her living situation was perhaps not as prosperous as it could have been, her physical and mental health both improved greatly, and she never missed a meal.

In any case, my mother and I talked, and we decided to apply the principle to my job this summer. The only place I really would like to work is the library, and they don't currently have the funds to hire me on as a worker. My other options, however, are less pleasant - grocery store, waitressing - and neither would help my feeling of self-worth much, especially considering how rude many of the people in this town are. So we're going to do our best to refrain from being afraid of running out of money for my schooling, and I'm going to volunteer at the library part-time. If they get the funding to hire me, great; if not, we'll trust that the money to help with my schooling will come from some other source. Or who knows, maybe I'll quit college and start taking voice lessons...*shrug* But we'll both be doing some meditating (for lack of a better word) on where I should go next...

(And for the record, my cynical side is shaking her head in wonderment at this whole thing. But even she can't deny I'll be happier at the library than waitressing...)

In other news, I ordered a chemise of sorts to go under my various corsets. I was a bit disappointed with it - I thought it was waist-length, when in fact it ends just beneath the bustline. But it looks wonderful with said corsets, which is good - and I have a bid on a waist-length cotton one that, while lightweight, isn't see-through and can therefore also be worn with waist cinchers. Yay!

I put up a picture of the see-thru chemise, worn with one of my corsets - apologies about the lack of quality; the picture was self-taken about five seconds before my camera ran out of battery. (And for those of you who voted, yes, that's Maggie in the picture. More pictures of her will hopefully be coming soon. =)

That's pretty much it for now...
