A bit of geographical irony
Jan. 10th, 2008 08:52 amSo, we're definitely moving into the new place - application's dropped off, notice given to our current landlady, moving date set. I'm looking forward to it, even if last night's actual measurements did give lie to the illusion that it was bigger. However, we've got a couple pieces of furniture and such that we've been meaning to get rid of for some time now, so getting rid of those will definitely make our living space feel larger.
As for the irony, first a lesson in Juneau geography for those who don't live here. Juneau's located on mainland Alaska (lack of roads in or out notwithstanding), and Douglas Island runs roughly parallel to the coast, thus forming the Gastineau Channel. The Valley, where our current home and our place of work are located, is in the north of Juneau. The new place is located in North Douglas, just across the channel. Observe:

The green "X" is our office, the red "X" is our current apartment, and the green arrow is the new place. Not actually that much farther away, as you can see.
However, there is currently only one bridge between Douglas and Juneau, which is located all the way south in the downtown area. Hence, our morning drive to work will look like this:

So...time to buy a helicopter for commuting? =D
