Snowing like crazy again today, so Brian and I decided to head to Costco (which is about a block away from J&W) for hot dogs for lunch. As we walk in the door, however, Brian suddenly goes "Oooooh!" and starts dashing towards the center of the store, leaving me scratching my head and wondering whether Elvis had suddenly reincarnated and was signing autographs, and nobody had told me. (Not that either of us are huge fans of his, but, y'know - it's Elvis.) When I finally catch up with him (Brian, not Elvis) he's looking wild-eyed around the video game section, raving about seeing someone walk out with a Nintendo Wii. I wasn't quite convinced that this wasn't simply the excited imaginings of an over-hopeful gamer-geek (new-generation consoles are a pretty rare sight in this town), but eventually we did find the display of Wiis, of which a sizable chunk had already disappeared (and this was at the very beginning of the lunch hour in a town blanketed by a sudden 15 inches of new snow). Long story short, we now are the proud owner of a Wii, Zelda: Twilight Princess, another game that came with the bundle, and Monkey Ball: Banana Blitz (which we braved the snow to hit Fred's for - unfortunately, they were sold out of the spare controllers for the time being). So if I'm not posting much over the next few days, that's probably why.

From a semi-outside standpoint, though, the whole new console-war has struck me as pretty hilarious more than once. So to commemorate our first steps into the world of new-gen gaming, I hereby present to you my take on Janis Joplin's classic "Oh Lord, Won't You Buy Me A Mercedes-Benz?"

Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Nintendo Wii
My friends are all backing the Playstation 3
And I've got a 360 for my HDTV
Oh Lord, won't you buy me a Nintendo Wii?

Obviously a bit of a work in progress, so if anyone has suggestions for additional verses dealing with new-generation technology, feel free to add them on. =)
