The results of Alaska's gubernatorial election are disappointing, but unsurprising. Hurray for having a rabidly-anti-choice pro-abstinence-only-sex-education certainly-not-in-touch-with-reality woman for governor! I just hope she keeps that particular bit of her agenda to herself - Alaska has one of the best sex education systems in the country, which is incredibly necessary given our higher-than-average statistics for rape and sexually active teens (not that I'm equating the two, mind). So long as she's more worried about the gas pipeline or whatever and keeps her hands off the education system, I won't mind too much. (Though if she tries to pull the same thing that the governor of South Dakota did, you'll all be able to find me hiding under the covers gibbering something to myself about cultrual regression and moving to England. Or Canada. Or maybe the Netherlands.)
I actually kind of enjoyed voting, this time around. For once, I was fairly familiar with most of the candidates on the ballot, and (also for once) there was a candidate for governor who seemed to be fairly intelligent and have policies based on some grounding in reality. Just my luck he happened to be the independent. But I voted for him anyway. (I really hate the two-party system, sometimes.)
Just another year or so before Brian and I move to a blessedly blue state...
