Onward as always...
May. 31st, 2006 11:23 amNot a whole lot of note going on, lately. Monica came over last night and we rented Casanova, which actually surprised me with how fun it was. Most of the critics' beefs with it came from the fact that it was (a) not historically accurate and (b) too silly, but I actually enjoyed the farcical aspects - while it came off as a little over-the-top at times, the actors were all having so much fun with it that you could forgive the excess slapstick. And, of course, I've always had a weakness for both period pieces and stories about trickster characters, a category in which this particular Casanova certainly fits. Also, a note for any Discworld fans out there - after seeing Jeremy Irons as Bishop Pucci, I'm going to have to offer him the role of Mr. Slant in any film adaptations where he might be needed. =)
After several false starts, we also have managed to finally order that Toshiba television - it only took about six tries to find an online retailer that wasn't sold out and didn't want to charge us $600 to ship to Alaska. So things are proceeding, albeit slowly.
My mother's visit went well, too - it was a gorgeous and sunny Saturday, so after having waffles for lunch we took her out to the Shrine of St. Therese. As beautiful as the place was on a somewhat overcast day in early spring, it was even more so on a sunny summer day - the water was beautifully clear and the flowers that'd been put in were just gorgeous. Even though I'm hardly religious, I'd have to say it was a pretty sublime experience, seeing all that beauty...
